Self-Portrait Renaissance Painting
For this project, I created an 11 x 14 inch digital illustration based on a painting from the Renaissance. The assignment required selecting a portrait-format artwork from this period and recreating it while replacing the original subject with a self-portrait. Using Adobe Photoshop, I studied the painter’s visual style and attempted to imitate it using only digital brushes. This involved recreating the lighting, color palette, and painterly texture typical of Renaissance portraiture while adapting the image to include my own facial features. The final illustration remakes the original composition while maintaining the historical style of the painting. The project focused on observational study, digital painting techniques, and understanding how traditional Renaissance portrait styles can be recreated through contemporary digital tools.
